The city of Monterey is situated on the central coast of California and has approximately 30,000 inhabitants. The visitor season is from May through October and during this period the city attracts over 70,000 visitors. Monterey city is located on the southern edge of Monterey Bay and has pristine beaches.
Monterey is known for its rich diverse marine life and kelp forest. The city´s waters are home to a wide variety of fascinating marine species, including dolphins, humpback whales, sea lions, harbor seals, and migrating grey sea otters. Popular dive spots are Breakwater Cove, which is a brilliant place to get a glimpse of sea lions and octopuses. And Cannery Park also called San Carlos Beach which is just west from Breakwater Cove. This dive site is ideal for a second dive, and to get away from the crowd at Breakwater. The dive area is mainly sandy, so expect to see the occasional Halibut.
