Puerto Galera is a coastal town, famous among tourists and scuba divers. The area has been a Man and Biosphere Reserve of Unesco since 1973 and is among the top diving holiday destinations in the Philippines. The most famous beaches are Sabang Beach and White beach, Sabang being visited by international tourists and White Beach attracts more locals.
Great dive sites are found a few minutes from Sabang and divers don’t have to go by boat to find spots. Within a kilometer from the coast you will find a wide array of marine life, as it is estimated there are over 3,000 species of marine animals among which 170 species of nudibranch around Puerto Galera as well as hard and soft corals. In addition, Puerto Galera as the largest variety of dive sites in the Philippines with walls, reefs and wrecks. Note that strong currents are common in the area and that an experienced instructor is recommended. Puerto Galera has many diving facilities and specializes in technical diving with many dive centers offering specific courses.
Puerto Galera has around one hundred resorts and hotels on its coast, suitable for all budgets and tastes. You can get to Puerto Galera by boat, leaving from Batangas. Make sure to choose the right destination port, as there are four main points of entry to the island: Sabang Pier, White Beach, Muelle Pier and Balatero Pier.
