Cancun was built actually built for tourists. The area around Cancun was only sparely inhabited before. Today, it is composed of fourteen miles of pristine white beaches, home to Maya archaeological wonders, turquoise seas and a beautiful underwater world. You can find world class hotels, restaurants and nightlife around Cancun. The destination Cancun is still considered the gateway to the Mayan World. For culture interested, Mayan temples and ritual sites are everywhere, some smothered by lush jungle, others easily accessible.
Cancun has the world’s second largest coral reef. The Mayan Riviera is just legendary in the diving world. You can find millions of multi-colored reef fish, school of barracudas and jacks and above all, sea turtles swimming peacefully around. All the dive sites are located in the National Park and offer a wide variety of diving. Cancun is considered one of the five top diving in destinations in the world. El Tunel is a large cave dive for experienced divers. You can find turtles and dolphins around here. Less experienced divers can try the Chitales, a very popular reef dive.
Cancun is also home to another Cancun’s Underwater Museum. The museum was opened in 2009 in features Jason de Caires Underwater Sculptures.
