Things to know about Caño Island

Caño Island, located 15 km from Costa Rica, west of Drake Bay, is one of the best dive sites in the Pacific. Known for its lush tropical forests and sandy beaches with clear warm water (above 22 ° C and with visibility greater than 15 m.), it provides conditions for good diving.

The island, which mixes sandy beaches with high cliffs, faces the Corcovado National Park. It has a very rich fauna, with populations of crustaceans, molluscs and other invertebrates. On the coast, the sea creates gaps where you can find a huge variety of fish. On the rocks surrounding the lagoons limpets and other fishes are concentrated. In the reefs that surround the island more than 15 species of corals have been detected. The abundant and varied marine life - shares many species with one of the most important ecosystems in the world: the Galapagos Islands - makes diving in these waters is a dip for a habitat full of life. About the dive sites

On this island you will see offshore reef fauna. Caño Island offers all varieties of diving. Both novice and experienced divers will find favorable places to dive. Diving with a non-aggressive reef shark will be an experience that will last forever. There are many attractive places for diving. In Campanario (Bell), near the Corcovado National Park, is common to find many tropical fish, between 15 and 40 meters. You can really dive into a real "underwater forest" among different sharks, parrot fish, puffer fish, moray eels, and tropical fish and bull sharks.

There is also a place on this island with the curious and misleading name of "Wreck", where there is no any ship but a flat bottom with few hills and few rocks and strong current, of about 20 meters of depth that allows practicing diving pretty quiet and relaxing amid the immense rock formations frequented by countless fish. In Down the Devil a deep dive is realized between perpendicular walls by reefs and varied marine vegetation, between that they live large fish, mainly sharks. . Marine life on the island
